Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

I took a big step today - I purchased a "Fielder's Choice" ticket package from the Dodgers. Last year I essentially went through baseball withdrawal, attending only about five games.

My purchase this year is for all Sunday games, all holiday games (Fourth of July fireworks), all midweek day games, and a package of Saturday games. This includes Opening Day, which I've requested as my floating holiday at work.

For a change, the Dodgers are not at home during ALA, which means I don't have to eat any tickets. When ALA is in Washington, DC this summer, the Nationals will be participating in the Dreaded Interleague Play. (I'm with Crash Davis, in supporting a constituional amendment eliminating the designated hitter. If I ever become dictator, I'll do away with interleague play as well.)

The Dodgers had a two-year experiment of not having players' names on the backs of their jerseys. When I went to games last year, it was Jeff Kent (#12) and eight guys named Who. I think there are only two players on the roster who came up through the Dodgers' farm system - Russell Martin, the catcher, and (I think) one of the pitchers.

Only 24 days and counting until Opening Day!
